Nei primi anni lavora in diverse stamperie di Chicago come disegnatore e illustratore. Nel
1895 apre a Springfield una sua stamperia, "Bradley: his book" per la quale disegna
manifesti, illustra libri e riviste, ma che viene ben presto assorbita dalla University Press di
Cambridge, presso la quale egli rimane come maestro d'arte. Il suo stile è ispirato
all'Art Nouveau, che lo
conduce alla scoperta di una linea decorativa vorticosa, quasi astratta. È molto vicino al mondo fantastico dell'inglese Aubrey
Beardsley, con palesi influenze del francese Eugène Grasset. Lavorò quasi esclusivamente per riviste, giornali e
libri: "The Chicago Tribune", "The Echo", "The Inland Printer",
"The Chap Book", "The Poet and His Lady" (1895), "Harper's Bazaar"
(1896). Fu insignito del titolo di "Decano dei tipografi americani".
